JESS MOVEHow it works

The engine

It finds the gap.
Then it earns the interruption.

Every candidate moment is scored. Below the threshold the system says nothing at all — silence is a valid, logged outcome. Above it, you get one Snap of 90–300 seconds, matched to the body you actually have and the room you are actually in.

Step one

The Movement Opportunity Score.

Seven factors multiply and three penalties subtract. Everything is normalised to 0–1 so no single large input can dominate, and safety confidence sits in the multiplied half — a zero there kills the recommendation regardless of how good the moment otherwise looks.

The formula

fires at ≥ 0.34

score = (availableTime × sedentaryDuration × readiness × environmentalSuitability × safetyConfidence × completionProbability × personalBenefit) − mean(interruptionCost, socialAwkwardnessRisk, fatigueRisk)

  • × available time
  • × sedentary duration
  • × readiness
  • × environmental suitability
  • × safety confidence
  • × completion probability
  • × personal benefit
  • interruption cost
  • social awkwardness risk
  • fatigue risk

The nine questions

  1. When were they last active?
  2. What are they doing right now?
  3. Where are they?
  4. What physical capability do they have?
  5. How much time is genuinely available?
  6. Is movement safe and socially appropriate here?
  7. Which activity is most likely to be completed?
  8. What level of encouragement will actually work?
  9. When should we not interrupt at all?

Step two

A day, scored end to end.

The engine does not wait for a timer to run out. It builds a model of your day from calendar structure, device inactivity, wearable signal and — where you have enabled them — commute pattern, weather and location category.

Gaps found, used and deliberately skipped

Step three

Twelve agents, each owning one decision.

No agent may take another agent’s decision. Safety can only narrow. Recovery can veto the whole day. Accessibility rewrites the experience rather than adding an alternative link at the bottom.

AGENT 01

Daily Rhythm

Builds a living model of the day

  • Analyses calendar patterns and recurring sedentary periods
  • Separates work, study, travel and personal time
  • Predicts suitable windows and protects focus blocks
AGENT 02

Micro-Movement Coach

Selects the single most suitable activity

  • Weighs age, capability, clothing, equipment and joint limitations
  • Respects noise, privacy and available space
  • Avoids anything completed too recently
AGENT 03

Sedentary Pattern Detector

Finds inactivity trends, not just timer expiry

  • Long uninterrupted sitting and back-to-back meetings
  • Extended gaming, television and revision marathons
  • Recurring afternoon and weekend inactivity
AGENT 04

Behaviour & Motivation

Learns why a person accepts, ignores or abandons a prompt

  • Builds a motivational profile from real responses
  • Adjusts wording, timing, frequency and reward mechanics
  • Distinguishes encouragement-sensitive from low-pressure users
AGENT 05

Movement Safety

Screens every activity before it reaches a person

  • Age, mobility profile, restrictions, pregnancy and balance risk
  • Environmental hazards, recent pain reports and repeated strain
  • Can only narrow a recommendation, never widen it
AGENT 06

Accessibility

Transforms the experience to the individual

  • Seated, single-limb and reduced-range alternatives
  • Audio description, captions, BSL-compatible pathways, screen readers
  • Tremor-friendly targets, reduced animation, voice-only navigation
AGENT 07

Gamification Director

Generates missions, rewards and challenges

  • Prevents repetition and detects reward fatigue
  • Balances individual against team goals
  • Protects users from unhealthy competition
AGENT 08

Recovery & Fatigue

Stops the platform becoming intrusive

  • Lowers intensity after poor sleep; swaps strength for mobility
  • Pauses prompts during illness and activates Low Energy Day
  • Actively prevents overtraining behaviour
AGENT 09

Team Challenge

Builds inclusive group competition

  • Workplaces, schools, families, care communities, councils
  • Scores participation rather than physical capability
  • Keeps the strongest athlete from dominating every event
AGENT 10

Corporate Wellbeing

Produces anonymised organisational insight

  • Departments with long meeting blocks; low-participation periods
  • Office versus remote engagement and campaign performance
  • Structurally cannot expose an individual
AGENT 11

Family Wellbeing

Connects generations through shared activity

  • Grandparent and grandchild streaks
  • Household missions and weekend expeditions
  • Remote family celebration
AGENT 12

Engagement Rescue

Detects disengagement before abandonment

  • Reduces frequency, changes activity style, offers a fresh world
  • Replaces streaks with weekly flexibility
  • Offers a seven-day restart rather than a guilt message

Step four

The loop that makes the next one better.

01

Detect an appropriate movement opportunity

02

Offer a personalised 90–300 second mission

03

Accept, delay, replace or decline

04

Complete the activity

05

Verify by wearable, device motion or confirmation

06

Earn progress

07

What earns points

permitted
  • starting
  • completing
  • returning after a lapse
  • supporting a teammate
  • trying a new movement category
  • consistency
  • completing an accessible alternative
  • moving during a previously inactive period

What never earns points

banned
  • calories
  • body weight
  • physical appearance
  • maximum intensity
  • comparison of medical or biometric information

Asserted in continuous integration. A build that scores movement on calories, weight or appearance does not ship.

Team Score

Participation + Consistency + Improvement + Mutual support. Physical capability is absent by design — that is what lets a ten-year-old, a wheelchair user and an eighty-eight-year-old share one leaderboard fairly.

Weight, and control of it

Managing your weight is your decision to make — and to unmake.

For adults, supporting weight management is a primary aim of the platform. What the product refuses to do is decide on your behalf that a lower number is the goal, or make that number the thing you are measured against in public.

Three controls that are always yours

  • You choose the pathway100%

Nine pathways. Reduction is one of them, never the default and never assumed from a number.

  • You can change it, any time100%

Switching pathway is a setting, not a support request, and it never resets your progress.

  • You can switch the surface off100%

Turning body metrics off leaves movement, food and energy coaching fully intact.

Pathways
9

Reduce, Waist, Maintain, Recomposition, Gain, Child Growth, Older-Adult Independence, Limited Mobility, Professional Support.

Under 18
Never

No weight, BMI, calorie or appearance framing, in any mode, under any consent setting.

The full pathway model, the safety gate and the scorecard are documented on Body Balance.

See it against your own week.

The engine reads the shape of your calendar, not its contents, and finds the gaps that are actually movable. It needs your week to show you anything.
